You need to first remove the bolts of the seat and detach the seat. Flipping the seat makes it easier to unscrew the bolts. You may use a rachet to perform this task. Once the seat is removed, take out the center brace which supports the seat. After you have installed the sub, the brace will become redundant as the subwoofer enclosure will provide the necessary support to the rear seat. Now wire the system and replace the seat. If the sub is a powered device, you won’t need a separate amplifier. But if it is a passive system, you will need to connect it to an external amp which will entail some additional wiring. Finally, place the rear seat on top of the subwoofer enclosure and bolt it securely in place. Question : How much do subs cost for a truck? Truck subwoofer normally cost between $100 to $300. Basic entry-level models are priced around $50 or less. Sophisticated high-power subs can set you back by at least $500. Most medium-power products however cost around $150- to $200. Price of a subwoofer usually depends on its cone size, power handling capacity and whether it is passive or active in construction. Following are the price brackets of truck subwoofers: $50 to $100: These are mainly stand-alone under-seat subwoofers. Some might have large cones but simple features, others might have small cones but advanced features. In this range, you also get subwoofer enclosures. $101 to $300: These are mostly powered or non-powered subwoofers with 8-inch or 10-inch woofers and RMS power ratings between 100 to 300 watts. Both sealed and ported housings are available in this category. $300 to $500: These are high-end self-contained subwoofers. They have extra-large drivers and continuous powerful output. Question : What kind of sub box is best for a truck? There are three kinds of subwoofer boxes that you can use in your truck. Sealed, ported and bandpass. Sealed boxes are airtight and compact. They create tighter and more accurate bass but use up more power. Since the enclosure has no vents, more pressure is exerted on the woofer cone because of which it requires additional power to move back and forth. This pressure enables the cone to move faster and generate better, more precise bass. Ported subwoofer enclosures are also called bass reflex enclosures. These have a small vent or hole at the bottom of the box or to one side of it. The hole allows air to pass in and out of the box, thus equalizing air pressure inside and outside the enclosure. Ported subwoofers are louder and ‘boomier’ but less accurate than sealed ones. They also require less power and are larger than sealed boxes. Now, what kind of box you want to go for depends on two things: the space available inside your truck and the kind of music you listen to. If you have more space, you can go for a ported or bandpass box, if space is limited, you can opt for a sealed box. If you listen to R&B, rap and electronic music, ported subs are a better option. For classical music, sealed boxes are preferred. Pop and rock sound good on all three types of boxes. If you are an audiophile who loves loud music and enjoys listening to music for hours on end during long drives, a ported or bandpass enclosure would be a good choice. There are two locations you can try: under the seat or behind it. A slim-profile powered subwoofer will occupy less space as compared to a passive ported subwoofer with an additional amp. When installing a subwoofer in a truck, you want to face it away from the listening position for best sound quality. The orientation doesn’t matter, meaning it can be stood up or laid down on the floor. Bass frequencies have very long wavelengths and are not very directional. So, the exact position of the sub is inconsequential. Still, there might be a few differences based on the direction the speaker is facing. Let us analyze these below. Facing the boot of the truck Here the subwoofer fires into the boot of the car. It faces the rear end of the car which means its back it towards the driver. This is one of the most common placement options for automobile subs. It produces powerful bass and evenly distributes the sound throughout the vehicle. If you are into dubstep and EDM, we recommend you go for this option. Facing the rear seat of the truck Here the subwoofer is located behind the rear seat and faces the back of the seat. It aims the sound towards the front of the vehicle. Bass is felt in every part of the vehicle but it doesn’t overwhelm the higher frequencies. This is a good position for those who do not want very powerful bass. Facing the roof of the truck Here the sub projects sound towards the roof of the vehicle which means it is laid down horizontally. This orientation requires less cab space and does not rattle loose items in the truck. Bass is crisp and smooth. Facing down Here the subwoofer faces the floor of the vehicle. It is ideal for trucks that have space constraints. This placement produces more output than the upward firing position. In fact, in most cases, a downward firing sub generates more output as compared to other orientations. Question : What is the best subwoofer box for deep bass? The best subwoofer box for deep bass is a ported box. It has loud and powerful bass response. But accuracy is not its strength. Question : Are 10- or 12-inch subs better? Both are good in their own capacities. Suitability differs from vehicle to vehicle, and listener to listener. If you have a small car, it’s wise to go for a small sub, and if you have a big car, go for a large sub. Having said that, your bass preference also matters. If you are someone who likes bass-heavy music, it might be a good idea to try a 12-inch sub. Yes, sometimes a subwoofer box can be a little too big for its speaker. If a box is bigger than required, the system produces less overall output but more low frequency output. This happens due to its increased low frequency extension. But if the size of the box is increased further, the system loses both overall output and low frequency output. It becomes less stable and the bass is less tight. Also, the woofer might suffer damage. Ideally, the front panel of the enclosure should be at least 2-3 inches more than the woofer size. For example, if your subwoofer is 8 inches, the front panel should be 10-11 inches. The depth can be as per the volume you need for the enclosure. Most subwoofer manufacturers mention the recommended box size for the sub. If the size of the box is bigger, the low bass output is more than a smaller sealed box, but the bass response isn’t as tight. Question : What is the best subwoofer for a single cab truck? This question is hard to answer because what is best for one truck might not be so for another. Single cab trucks come in different sizes and makes. Some have more space in the boot (the area behind the rear seats) while some have less. Some are larger from inside meaning they have more internal volume while others appear big from outside but have less internal space. All these factors impact the acoustics of the interior of the truck. Therefore, there is really no one-size-fits-all when it comes to truck subwoofers. That said, there are a few products that have been found to perform well overall in trucks. These are, in no particular order, the Rockville RW10CA, the Pioneer TS-WX1210A and the Rockford Fosgate R2S-1X12. The Rockville RW10CA is a 10-inch flat-bodied underseat powered subwoofer with a peak output of 800 watts and an RMS output of 200 watts. It is a durable speaker with low and high-level RCA inputs and low pass filter. It has a subwoofer level remote control, bass boost and multiple protection (thermal, short circuit, overload). For people who have space issues in their trucks, this is a classic sub. The Pioneer TS-WX1210A is a 12-inch floor-standing sealed subwoofer with a built-in Class D amplifier. It has a peak power handling of 1300 watts and an RMS power handling of 350 watts. It has adjustable low pass filter, various inputs, bass boost, remote bass control knob, etc. For people who have a larger truck with a larger boot, this is a good sub. The Rockford Fosgate R2S-1X12 is a 12-inch powered subwoofer with a max power of 500 watts and an RMS power of 250 watts. It has a frequency response of 29-250 Hz and impedance of 2 ohms. The enclosure is shallow and shaped like a wedge for fitting single cab trucks with limited seat travel.
