Echo Studio – Product Review and Guide :

The biggest selling point of the Echo Studio is its sound profile. It is engineered with five uniquely placed speakers that project sound in different directions. The sound waves move outwards and fill up the space around them, swamping the listener in the process and creating an immersive surround sound effect. As a result, different parts of a song reach the listener from different angles, and this lends the sound a sense of space. The reason behind this is a clever hardware design and the ability to process object-based sound formats like Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Reality Audio. Let us analyze this in a little more detail.

Speaker Architecture

The Echo Studio is a cylindrical speaker. It is 8.1 inches tall and 6.9 inches in diameter. The five drivers inside the enclosure point in different directions. At the top you have an upward-firing 2-inch midrange speaker. Just below this are two 2-inch midrange speakers, one fires sound towards the left and the other towards the right. Between these two speakers is a forward-firing 1-inch tweeter which aims high-end frequencies directly at the listener.

High notes are very directional and they need to be at the level of the listener’s ears. Therefore, the tweeter has to face the listener and be at ear height as much as possible. The lower section of the Echo Studio houses the woofer, a massive 5 ¼ inch downward-firing driver. Just underneath the woofer is the bass aperture responsible for maximizing the bass impact.

The speakers are powered by built-in Class D amplifiers that deliver a maximum combined power output of 330 watts. Frequency response of the gadget is between 30Hz-24kHz.

Sound Technology

The Echo Studio is an intelligent speaker. It automatically adapts to the acoustics of a room (layout, size, placement of furniture, distance from corners, walls, etc.) and tailors its output to generate the most optimal sound for that room.

The performance of the speaker is further improved by Dolby Atmos. This technology enhances the spaciousness of the sound by giving it a multidimensional quality. It makes sound waves bounce off of walls and ceilings to create a 3D soundscape. This technique makes every instrument stand out to the point where you are able to tell which instrument is located where on stage and which sound is coming from which direction. If you are watching a movie, the dialogues reach you from different points which correspond to the position of the characters on screen.

In short, you feel as if you are watching the sound, and not just listening to it. And that is the beauty of the Echo Studio. In fact, it is the only Echo speaker that supports new music codecs mastered in 3D and Ultra HD. Hence, if you want absolute high-fidelity audio, the Echo Studio is the best choice.

Alexa Smart Home Assistant

The principal feature of the device is of course Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant. You can use her services to do a range of tasks like playing music, making to-do lists, adding new items to already made lists, turning on/off smart gadgets, adjusting the AC temperature, and so on.

Alexa offers access to an infinite reserve of songs on Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, SiriusXM, iHeartRadio, Tidal, and many more. She tell jokes, read out the news, set the alarm and remind you about your doctor’s appointment.

The Echo Studio connects with other Echo speakers in the house for you to use them as intercom. You can talk to people in other rooms using the Drop In and Announcements functions. It’s a cool way to communicate with your family and you won’t be hollering up the stairs anymore to call everyone to dinner.

Built-in Smart Home Hub

The smart speaker comes preinstalled with smart home hub Zigbee. So controlling your Zigbee-enabled appliances will be super easy. All you have to do it ask Alexa and she will carry out your command. The speaker supports every Works with Alexa device. It is also compatible with Alexa Guard which provides smart alerts. This function helps Echo devices detect the sound of smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, glass breaking, etc. It improves home safety and lets you keep an eye on your house even when you are away.
